ROCK star Stuart Cable’s 10-year-old son will inherit more than £500,000 after his father died without leaving a will.

The former Stereophonics drummer left assets of £1.4m when he died on June 7 last year after a lengthy drinking session.

That was reduced to £535,000 after debts and fees were paid, which his son, Cian, will inherit.

Philip Beresford, who compiles the Sunday Times Rich List, said: “It must be from royalties and things like that coming in over the years that kept him going.

“But if he has been living a Keith Richards life I’m amazed he had so much left.”

Cable was fronting new band Killing for Company when his body was found at his home in Llwydcoed, Aberdare.

The host of BBC Radio Wales show Cable Rock once revealed he thought he needed to “slow down” after a party with Dirty Sanchez star Matt Pritchard, who broke a chair over his head.

Pritchard said he once jokingly asked the musician if he was a millionaire.

He told him: “Yes I am, why’s that?”

Legal documents this week revealed that ex-wife Nicola Cable – Cian’s mother – and Stuart’s mother Mabel Cable will look after the estate.

The young son of late rocker Stuart Cable is set to inherit more than $800,000 following the star’s death last year. The former Stereophonics drummer was found dead at his home in Wales by his girlfriend Rachel Jones in June and a coroner ruled he choked on his own vomit following a booze binge.

Cable had $2.1 million in assets at the time of his passing – but debts and fees owed reduced the amount to $802,500, according to Britain’s The Sun. The rocker failed to make a will before his death – which means the cash will pass to his 10-year-old son Cian Damen, by ex-wife Nicola.

Following his death, Jones set up Think Before You Drink initiative where she calls for more hard-hitting alcohol warning labels to be created, as the “enjoy responsibly” message is no longer acceptable.

The Welsh rockers are still coming to terms with the passing of their original drummer, Stuart Cable – who died after a night of heavy drinking with friends in June – and bassist Richard Jones still finds it difficult to listen to their early records.

Richard said: “When you go back out on the road and you’re playing those songs again, or even hearing them. Even just last week, somebody was playing ‘You Gotta Go There To Come Back’, and just listening to him playing drums, it kind of comes back again.”

Frontman Kelly Jones said that despite splitting with Stuart, he has always kept in touch and is now helping his family to come to terms with the tragedy.

Speaking at the Virgin Media V Festival, he told Absolute Radio: “Stuart’s always with us and always has been, and we’ve talked quite a lot for the last five or six years, right up until the point where he passed.

“We kept in touch with his family a lot and his girlfriend, and I think it’s helped them speaking to us, because we obviously were as close to him as they are really, It’s been strange looking out in and sometimes people having RIP Stuart and stuff like that.”

Stereophonics’ first two albums, ‘Word Gets Around’ and ‘Performance and Cocktails’ will be re-released as special edition box sets and the band this week announced they will play two special shows to celebrate in London. On October 17 the band will perform ‘Word Gets Around’ in full and on October 18 they will play ‘Performance and Cocktails’ in its entirety. Both shows take place at the capital’s Hammersmith Apollo venue.

STUART CABLE’s band KILLING FOR COMPANY are releasing a charity single in his memory.

The former STEREOPHONICS drummer, who died last month, recorded the track Former Mining Town last year.

Now his old bandmates have decided to release the song in his honour on Monday.

The band said: “To think Stu won’t be on stage with us anymore is hard, but we hope to draw some positives from this difficult time.”

The proceeds will be split between Teenage Cancer Trust and Ty Hafan, a children’s hospice in Cardiff.

Stereophonics frontman KELLY JONES added: “Stuart was our lifelong friend and brother. We’d like everyone to join us in supporting Killing For Company’s charity single.”

Battle for top spot to honour bandmate

STUART Cable’s bandmates in Killing For Company are to mount an emotional assault for the number one slot in the singles chart.

They will release Former Mining Town, from their critically acclaimed debut album, next week in memory of the much- loved drummer.

The former Stereophonic was found dead at his home in Aberdare on June 7 — the day his band were to issue their debut album.

But the hard-rockers and his long-term partner and agent Rachel Jones decided to pull the song at the 11th hour — because they didn’t want to appear to cash in from the tragedy.

After being given time and space to mourn, they are ready to make the ultimate gesture of their love for Cable by releasing a single in aid of the sticksman’s two favourite charities.

Llanelli-born Rachel, 33, said: “The messages of support we have had from people had been truly unbelievable. They have all been asking ‘what can we do to help?’ Now they can by buying this single.

“We want to get this song to number one to pay tribute to Stuart and help out two causes he was very passionate about.

“This song is basically a tremendous gesture of love — and we’re asking everyone from Wales to do this for Stu.”

Cable’s death came just as Killing For Company had begun to make headway in the music industry.

The five-piece — completed by former Sheershock Revival members Steve Williams and Andy Williams, singer Greg Jones and guitarist Richie King — had secured a record deal and worked extensively on their debut album The Lost Art Of Deception.

Swansea-born bass player Steve, 37, said: “We recorded it in Newcastle, and were living with each other in a house up there.

“We bonded really well, and Stuart said it was the most enjoyable and easiest album he had made. I think it shows in the recording, because his drumming was phenomenal.”

The band then went out on a UK tour supporting The Alarm, and were also booked to play Britain’s biggest rock festival Download.

But six days before the band’s biggest show to date, the music world went into mourning as news of Cable’s passing broke.

Lead vocalist Greg, 37, said: “That day we were due to release Born Yesterday. But we decided to pull it at the last minute. It just didn’t feel right to release that song after what had happened. And we did not want people to think we were cashing in.”

Over the next few weeks, the band began a painstaking soul- searching mission to decide whether to carry on or call it quits.

“Stuart loved this band immensely,” added Greg. “He was so proud of it and told us that this was the next chapter in his life.

“As clichéd as it may sound, we knew we had to carry on because it’s exactly what he would have wanted.”

Over the past fortnight, the band have had their first session without Cable, which took place at his home studio in Llwydcoed.

Steve said: “The issue of a finding a new drummer will take some time, but we will never be able to replace Stuart. He was like a brother to us.”

In the meantime, the band plan to give one-final “shout-out” to the star by releasing Former Mining Town — Cable’s favourite track by his new band.

The band are now calling on Post readers to download the song — and get the song to number one in the charts.

Proceeds from the song will be donated to The Teenage Cancer Trust and Ty Hafan.

Rachel added: “Every last penny from the sales will be donated to charity. Stu missed out on getting a number one single when he was alive. But I know he’d be over the moon if everyone in Wales helped get his band to number one and helped The Teenager Cancer Trust and Ty Hafan at the same time.”

Former Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable was laid to rest today in a rock ‘n’ roll funeral service in his Welsh home town.
Up to 5,000 fans lined the streets of Aberdare to pay tribute to the 40-year-old musician, who was found dead after a heavy drinking session at his home in the village on June 7.

The rocker’s coffin, with the AC/DC lightning logo emblazoned across it, was carried through the streets on a horse-drawn carriage to the strains of AC/DC’s classic Back In Black being played through a loudspeaker.

Cable’s Stereophonics bandmate Kelly Jones, actor Rhys Ifans and comedian Rob Brydon joined the musician’s family and friends for a private service at St Elvan’s Church.

Leading the mourners were Cable’s partner Rachel Jones, 30, his mother Mabel, 79, and his nine-year-old son Cian.

Despite throwing Cable out of the band seven years ago, Jones had been back on friendly terms with the father-of-one and the pair had been planning to meet up for a drink – to celebrate Cable’s 40th birthday three weeks previously – the day his body was found.

Following the service, Jones said: ‘It’s hard to walk out crying when they’re playing Back in Black. This was a celebration of Stuart’s life.’

While the family said goodbye to Cable at a subsequent service at the Llwydcoed Crematorium, they still don’t know the cause of his death.

Police said it could be July before toxicology tests determine the cause of death after an initial post-mortem proved inconclusive.

Gwyn Davies, long-time friend, former neighbour and one-time judo instructor to Cable, said during the service: ‘Stuart’s dad passed away at the age of 40 when Stuart was just 10 – much like the sad situation Stuart’s son now finds himself in.

‘I’d like to think that Stuart’s son Cian(Corr) realises that every time he hears thunder it’s his dad playing the drums and watching over him.

‘Stuart treasured people’s love and friendship so much. He appreciated the fragility of life and vowed to make the most of every minute he had. Stuart was my best friend – but he was also everyone else’s best friend.’

Cable was a founder member of the chart-topping Stereophonics who had massive hits including Have A Nice Day, Local Boy In The Photograph, Just Looking and Bartender And The Thief.

The Stereophonics formed in 1992 and started their career playing in working men’s clubs, before signing to Sir Richard Branson’s record label V2 in 1996.

But he was ousted from the band six years ago after falling out with singer Kelly Jones.

The musician confessed to being a hard drinker and drug user in his autobiography Demons and Cocktails, which was released on paperback last month.

Cable carried on partying and doing drugs after leaving the Stereophonics, but finally cleaned up his act after moving back to the Welsh valleys.

He said: ‘I moved back to my old village because if I didn’t I’d have probably ended up dead or round the bend – or both.’

Father-of-two Cable had been playing with his new band Killing for Company who supported The Who last year.

He had also established himself as a media personality for BBC Wales – hosting his own radio show called Cable Rock.
