The Bartender & The Thief
The first single from Performance And Cocktails, this track was released in late ’98 and reached number 3 in the singles chart. A live favourite it is perhaps the heaviest track the band have recorded. Ultra fast, it tells the tale of a couple who rob people drinking in bars. They decide to amend their ways, and move to the sun, where they set up a bar, but end up robbing the locals. Originally it was never going to be a single, and was intended to be the jokey track on the album, but fortunately enought people persuaded Kelly that it was brilliant enough not just to be a single, but the first single! Remains a staple in setlists to this day. In July 2005, the band played the song to millions worldwide as they used the song to open their set at Live8.
