Billy Davey's Daughter

The closing track of the fantastic debut album, Word Gets Around, this sad lament of a village girl who committed suicide is the perfect antidote to the loud nature of the album. Kelly revealed that the song was written based on a rumour which has since turned out not to be true, but nothing can take away the brilliance of this song. This is where I got the name for the site, with the lyric “the word gets around” rather than after the first album. A very old track, Kelly wrote the lyrics for this in Autumn 1993. The earliest known recording of this from the Tragic Love Company demo is alot faster and features an extra verse, well worth trying to find.
