Belsonic Rocks

Due to the overwhelming response to the 2010 line-up and unprecedented sales, Belsonic in association with Absolut is set to expand and have announced four additional shows, to comprise a total of eight nights at Belfast’s Custom House Square this August.

Leading the charge on this second phase of announcements are English rock giants Kasabian on Tuesday, August 17. Following their 2009 sellout Belfast performance in St George’s Market, Kasabian headline the opening night of Belsonic.

Scottish singer/songwriter Paolo Nutini takes to the stage on Wednesday, 18. His last Belfast appearance in 2009 at the Waterfront hall, sold out an impressive eight months in advance. Despite crashing into the mainstream in 2006 with his record breaking debut LP These Streets, he became a household name following the release of its 2009 follow-up Sunny Side Up. It debuted at number one in the album charts, and has gone on to sell over one million copies in the UK alone.

BRIT award-winning indie outfit Florence & The Machine play on Thursday, 19 and are one of the brightest British talents of the last 10 years. Florence’s (right) stage presence and powerful vocal range have seen her shoot to fame over the last 12 months.

Welsh rock stalwarts Stereophonics perform on Friday, 20. With seven studio albums out to date, the Cardiff four-piece have been described as “classic UK rock with whiskey vocals”. The band boast a huge back catalogue of hit singles including Mr Writer, Dakota, Have A Nice Day and Local Boy In The Photograph.

Their appearance at Belsonic is their first Belfast performance since headlining the Odyssey Arena in late 2007.

Each act individually could be considered the highest profile in the history of the event, however combined with previously announced headliners 2 Many DJs/ Soulwax on Thursday, August 26, Paul Weller on Friday 27, Biffy Clyro on Saturday 28 and David Guetta on Sunday, 29, Belsonic 2010 is set to be a landmark cultural event for the city, catering to a diverse range of age groups and music tastes.

Belsonic is an over 16s event, people under the age of 16 will not be admitted. Tickets for the all headline acts are on sale now, priced at £27.50 plus booking fees. Tickets will be available from Ticketmaster, The Kitten Bar at The Stiff Kitten, www.ticketmaster.ie and www.belsonic.com.
